Integrated Statistics is looking for a Biological Laboratory Technician to work in support of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) located in Milford, CT.
This position provides assistance with animal husbandry and with the upkeep of seawater systems and tanks.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Cleaning sediment from tanks and other seawater system components.
- Maintaining broodstock and assisting with shellfish spawning.
- Rearing of larval shellfish.
- Recording and organizing data collected.
- Preparing tables, graphs, and summary reports.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to do physical work in indoor and semi-enclosed spaces.
- Proficiency with measuring devices, such as calipers and balances.
- Meticulous record-keeping skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences.
- Experience using common software applications (e.g. Word, Access, Excel, web-browsers etc.).
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Understanding of basic biological principles and experimental design.
- Basic plumbing skills.
- Work experience in hatchery or large aquarium settings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with bivalve mollusks.
- Familiar with flowing seawater systems.
The position is full-time, with an expected duration of 4-6 months. The rate of pay is $21-22/hr. The position is eligible for the benefits described on the Integrated Statistics website.
