Integrated Statistics is looking for three Biological Laboratory Assistants to work in support of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) located in Milford, CT. There are three separate projects in: Analytical Chemistry, Flow Cytometry, and Microbiology. Please scroll down as the jobs are listed alphabetically. Your application will be considered for all. The positions are all full-time, with an expected duration of 4-6
months, the rate of pay for all of them is $21-22/hr, and they are eligible for the benefits described on the Integrated Statistics
website.
Responsibilities- Prepare volumetric suspensions of microalgal cultures.
- Quantify cultured and natural microalgae using compound microscope and flow cytometry.
- Collect natural seston on filters during field sampling programs.
- Extract filters with organic solvents.
- Determine chlorophyll concentrations in extracts using fluorometer or spectrophotometer.
- Record and organize data collected.
- Prepare tables, graphs, and summary reports.
Qualifications- Ability to do physical work in indoor spaces.
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology or related biological science.
- Laboratory experience, including demonstrated proficiency with volumetric chemistry.
- Meticulous record-keeping and organizational skills.
- Experience using common software applications (e.g. Word, Access, Excel, web browsers, etc.).
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of basic microbiology strongly preferred.
- Experience working with microalgae in lab and/or field settings preferred.
- Familiarity with use of spectrophotometers and fluorometers for quantitative analysis preferred.
