Integrated Statistics is looking for an Environmental Specialist to work with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) in the Greater Atlantic Region Field Office (GARFO). The Environmental Specialist will be engaged in Section 7 consultations.

*** This position is concerned with regulatory and analytical processes, rather than with field research. ***

The Endangered Species Act (ESA) directs federal agencies to utilize their authority to carry out programs for the conservation of threatened and endangered species. Federal agencies must also consult with NMFS on activities that may affect a listed species. These interagency, or Section 7 consultations, assist federal agencies in ensuring that federal actions do not jeopardize the continued existence of a species or destroy or adversely modify critical habitat.

The Environmental Specialist will assist GARFO in responding to incoming ESA Section 7 requests for consultation and guidance, including the development and finalization of technical assistance letters, informal consultations, and formal Biological Opinions issued under Section 7 of the ESA. Consultations will evaluate potential effects of federal actions on ESA-listed whales, sea turtles, and fish within GARFO’s jurisdiction (Maine through Virginia). Federal actions may include aquaculture, infrastructure projects (e.g., bridge replacements), marine transportation, etc.
