Integrated Statistics is looking for a Mobile Developer to work in support of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC).
This person will work on design and development of a digital data collection system to support the at-sea longline survey (LLS) work of the NEFSC Cooperative Research Branch (CRB). The goal is to design, develop, and deploy software applications on mobile devices to improve electronic data capture processes for the LLS. The data collection system should use hand-held mobile devices which interface with other electronic devices such as digital fish boards and Marel scales. The system should incorporate data QA/QC during the collection process, and support data export functions to an Oracle database. The applications would be web apps to allow for deployment on multiple operating systems such as Android and Windows.
This system will be composed of multiple modules, building off existing databases and software developed at the NEFSC. A base module collects the location via GPS as well as parameters for the fishing gear and its deployment. Additional modules build on the base module, accommodate these tasks:
- Recording of catch information with linkages to length, weight, and other biological data for individual species of fish and invertebrates.
- Identifying and tracking equipment deployed during the surveys.
- Scanning, printing, and matching barcodes for specimen samples and asset tracking.
- Notifications that alerts the user to perform an action based on pre-established criteria related to individual fish records triggered based on the information from the length or biological data.
