Integrated Statistics is looking for a GIS Analyst to support the National Wildlife Refuge System (NWRS) Alaska Region Refuges Division of Natural Resources. NWRS is the world’s premier system of public lands and waters set aside to conserve America’s fish, wildlife, and plants.

The GIS Analyst will support refuges by storing and accessing geospatial data, advising on the utility of geospatial data in support of specific needs, and conducting analysis of geospatial data.

Duties
The GIS Analyst takes responsibility for:

Assisting refuge staff with tasks that are related to constructing maps, such as: constructing graphical displays of data; analyzing geospatial data; and developing metadata.
Assisting regional staff with developing solutions to assist refuges with the storage, access, and curation of data useful to Alaskan Refuges.
Assisting regional staff with identifying useful and available training resources for refuge staff aimed at bolstering skills needed to locate, store, and use geospatial data that furthers refuge aims.
Assisting with other GIS-related tasks as needed.

Qualifications and Skills
The GIS Analyst must possess:

Educational qualifications or certifications that show a developed understanding of the application of GIS technologies to problems in ecology and natural resource management.
3+ years of documented work experience using ESRI products to store, manipulate, analyze, and display environmental geospatial data (e.g., biotic and abiotic features on the landscape and raster data useful to characterize landscape features).
Practical experience in conducting geospatial analyses such as: terrestrial habitat classifications, home-range estimation from collar detections, linking animal distribution and habitat data to inform determination of important habitat/areas, knowledge of workflows associated with the use of field data collections devices, etc.
Strong organizational skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently, but as part of a team.
Understanding of scientific and natural resource management work flows.

These skills are desirable but not required:

Knowledge of open source GIS analysis platforms.
Demonstrated skill in analyzing geospatial data using R.
Knowledge of the national USFWS geospatial program resources related to data access and analysis that can assist refuges with poor internet connectivity.
Knowledge and understanding of Alaskan ecosystems.
Understanding of scientific and natural resource management work flows.

The position is full-time and is expected to last one year, and the rate of pay is approximately $29/hr. The position may begin with a period of remote work to accommodate pandemic restrictions.
